Microsoft Windows small business server...

Hello and thanks for reading,

I believe I have a problem... The situation is that we have 10 hosted Exchange accounts in a certain hosting company. Our website is hosted in a different hosting company (Godaddy), and we need more email accounts.

Would it be possible to get more email accounts, but with Godaddy.com (my new hosting company) ?

The problem is that the domain resides where the hosted Exchange accounts, and if I change the MX records to point to the new hosting company, we don't receive the Exchange mailboxes, and if I point the MX records to the Exchange server in the other company I don't receive the POP3 mail boxes...

Is there any solution to mix them?

Thank you very much,

jud

Questions.

1. Why do you need exchange email? What are you using doing that is specific to exchange?

2. If you have email accounts with the exchange host, and your homepage website with another host, and your domain points to the exchange host, then how do i access your website if your domain doesn't point to it?

You could try setting up the new accounts under something like email.yourdomain.com and have the MX point that to the new accounts. Or you could have the email.yourdomain.com point to the exchange accounts only and have yourdomain.com point to your website and your new email addresses if they are on the same new host.

Thanks for your reply ! (and thanks to the admins for place the post in the right forum)

Well we use Outlook so Exchange is good for sharing agendas and working stuff. We also use OWA and syncronize the laptops and iPhones with the Exchange accounts.

The registar is the same company that give us the Exchange accounts. I setup the Domain Names to point the GoDaddy server for the website of the company, but I can't change the MX recors, if I do it, I lose the Exchange accounts... I believe I'll have to unify everything :(

Thanks for writing back. I think we can try a few things.

Have you attempted to setup two MX records. When one fails it will try the other one.

MX 10 exchangeemail.com
MX 100 godaddy email.com

Thanks. I'm not sure if this one will work or not. It might only work if there is a temporary problem such as a power outage or something, if the server returns an "account not found" it might not check the other server. Anyways it's worth a try in the mean time.

Thanks.
