Specs: Server 2003
Hey Guys,

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and I want to install server 2003 R2 Standard on it. A friend was telling me that i need to install certain software before i can install the OS from a CD.

Can you guys tell me what i need in order to accomplish this? I already made the RAID configurations.

I'm not familiar with the particulars of Dell servers, being an IBM man, but I should imagine that this is what you need: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...

There is a wealth of drivers and other software for your system on the Dell web site.

I don't why anything else would be installed first. Isn't the drive going to be formatted during the install anyway?

He said I need to install dell open systems management first or the disk would not be read. I believe that was the software he said that was needed. The other 2 servers which are 2950's aswell are to be connected to this one.

The raid was damaged and the HD's were wiped so now i have to do a full restore. If that information helps any bit.

I don't see why any of that is needed. Maybe someone else can help.

These programs that come with servers can help with OS installation but are not essential. If you are using hardware RAID then you will almost certainly need to provide drivers for your particular card on a floppy disk or CD whilst installing. The management software would load the drivers for you.
