hot standby server

Specs: server 2003, 4/8
i have 2 servers , with totally different hardware, one with a raid 5 hard drive, and the other with a single hard drive.
one of these servers (the one with the raid5) is the server used in the production environment.
the other server serves no purpose.
what is the best way to make the unused server an exact copy of my main server (same name, same ip , exact same thing) so once the main server down, i can simply replace it with the standby server.

Not something you can do without expensive software. It is also an antiquated idea with the advent of Virtual computing.

There are a number of considerations of failover before you get to doing hot standby. Simple things like your server on a ups? Have dual power supplies? Basics.

If your production server is running Active Directory that 2nd server should be a DC. Right now you have no AD failover.

There used to be a number of products years ago but they have gone away. This looks interesting
