Event Viewer System Log Corrupt:

I have tried everything from Technet to try and get this issue resolved. Has anyone else had this problem. Server 2003 (Stand alone server) joined to workgroup system log in event viewer is always corrupt. I stop the event viewer service restart the server delete the sysevt.evt file and recreate it. start the service again and reboot. The log might work for a day or so and then it gets corrupt again. I read on MS website that SP2 was supposed to fix this issue but I have SP2. It is really starting to trouble me as the sysevt log is vital to troubleshoot server problems. Any ideas?
