dual boot W2K3 on newer XP Professional O.S..

October 31, 2011 at 20:35:36
Specs: Windows XP
Just installed hard drive (E), attempted to install windows server 2003 on a newer XP Professional O.S. and received error stating, "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD (i.e., windows server 2003)“
“Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered."
How can I create a dual boot where XP Professional (currently installed on c :\) and Windows Server 2003 on E.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

doesn't sound like you were installing 2003 OUTSIDE of xp. In other words do a little reading on the internet on how to do this. You would do it via a bios bootup ot via being in xp.

youre basically dual botting the same operating system. you can backup your stuff, and install windows server 2003 as your only os.

check out this article on turning windows server 2003 into a desktop os:

ldavis you boot the 2003 cd via the bios so it loads. You point the install at e:. It will create the boot.ini entry for 2003 and all should be good.
