domain controller is down

June 24, 2011 at 14:04:21
Specs: Windows server 2003, 2gb
i changed my server because of authentication problems, the new server seemed to work just fine. i can get computers into the domain, i can reset passwords HOWEVER, when trying to log on in a computer that was listed with the old server into the domain, it tells me that domain controller is DOWN.
I had to get the computer out of domain and then get into the domain again in order the controller to respond..
is there any service i forgot to upgrade or turn on to avoid doing this taks???

Appears you did not follow the recommended procedure but brought up a new forest/domain controller.

You now have to go thru all the steps like you are building a new network which means joining the pcs to a workgroup and then to the new domain.

Correct procedure was to have joined the new DC to the existing domain, make it a dns and global catalog holder. then xfer the fsmo roles to it and then demote the old server from AD

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.
