I notice that that server has a RAID controller. Do you have the disks set up in a RAID array by any chance? A RAID 5 array with those disks would give you a disk size of 292GB, which is close enough to what you see.

Raid is good. No raid is bad. Google raid levels for more info

Depends upon your requirements. RAID 0 can be the best thing since sliced bread or it can be the worst idea that you have ever had. It all depends upon how fast you need your disks to be, what capacity you require, how much down time you can tolerate, and how good (and frequent) your backups are.

On the other hand, RAID 5 is, generally, a Very Good Idea.

Just my opinion but raid 0 sucks. No only do you have no fault tolerance but in all of my experiments using scsi and ide drives I saw NO performance gain. I was really disappointed since I was looking at a boost for video editing as well as gaming.

but this is a moot point since its pretty clear we are dealing with Raid5 here which does have fault tolerance.
