Specs: Windows 2003 server Standard, Quad 2.49GHz/8GB
Hi,
I'm running Server 2003 x64 R2 Standard. I have scanned my server for some viruses, spyware and malware. All been removed. Whenever I select anything in windows explorer I receive a very poor response time and if I check under task manager it shows an explorer.exe service using about 75 - 80% of my cpu thus slow response.
I have done some searches, but couldn't find anything concrete to help me speed up my server. I'm using it as my DC and is becoming an issue.

Any suggestions?

If virus's are getting to your server you do not have the correct security protocols in place.
Virus's are not what they used to be, tools of disruption or distruction. They are all about stealing your data for profit.
Most likely you are still infected with hacker backdoor tools. If you can't restore a backup to before the infection...

I would completely reinstall the server from scratch.

Ja well I just started working here and are not sure when they got infected with the issue so I am not sure when the last virus free or good backup is to restore from.
Not the answer I was looking for but seems like there is no other option than to rebuild from scratch.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate.

A repair install will preserve the data/apps and get you running but won't address the potencial risk factor of hidden hacker tools.
