cinemastar drive read by only one enclosure

July 18, 2013 at 13:15:10
Specs: Server 2003
I have a 500gb cinemastar hard drive that can only be read by an older iomega enclosure. When I plug this drive into another enclosure disk manager shows that the drive is unreadable. I can't create a partition or format it.

I tried to install xp on it but this fails too. The pc sees it as a secondary disk on this one hard drive computer. btw, I do not see any jumpers installed by the sata connectors...

Anyone know why this happens or how to set this thing to primary?

Why do you have to use an enclosure? Are you connecting it to a laptop?

Thanks guapo...

My pcs won't detect this hard drive. When I said I tried installing xp on the drive it was in an Optiplex pc. This pc has one hard drive installed and it works fine unless the cinemastar hard drive is installed. Then when I try to install xp it fails with the secondary drive0 message.

I use an enclosure because this drive can only be read when connected with this one older iomega enclosure...

That's strange. A secondary drive shouldn't be drive0, it should be drive1, right? Did you change the jumper settings on it? Is the BIOS set to auto detect? If it's installed internally, where on the ribbon cable is it located?
