cannot access Windows storage server on domai

September 30, 2010 at 22:22:12
Specs: Windows XP
have a network with windows sbs server 2003 as the DC, windows standards server for business software and 16 clients all using the SBS as DHCP and AD.

Wanted to hook up Windows storage server 2003R2. when first attached to network in Workgroup mode all is fine can remote desktop in and manage the WSS server.

when i go to join it to the doamin it cannot be contacted. It has the correct ip settings.

it seems like when i join it to the doamin the DC blocks the IP addy .....cannot ping or remote access to it.

Any suggestions
the only way to be able to talk to the WSS is to reset it back to factory which changes the domain back to workgroup...As this requires full install and reformat (4tb - nearly 2 days)

I have tried connecting to the domain with WSS 3 times and everytime the same thing.

it say successfully joined domain need reboot
on reboot it shows in the network listing but is uncontactable

Are you using this second server with a Static IP address? I would definitely recommend creating a valid addresss within the subnet outside of the SBS DHCP servers scope, or at least set up a reservation. This new server has the SBS Server set to the DNS and then the router for Gateway?
