You can use Terminal Services to run thin clients. But you will still need licences for every user who accesses the system. You don't say why you want to run diskless clients. If the reason is cost, I don't think that you will find it works. By the time you have beefed up the server to support multiple clients, and have paid for all the necessary licences, I think that you will end up paying more than with standalone clients.

If you want to save costs you need to look into Open Source operating systems.

In our environment thin clients are cheaper than pcs and with Citrix we get better security which in turn means I don't have to hire a firewall/AV person which in turn is also cheaper.

thin client don't have hard drives but they boot from embedded OS off of flash ram.

They do not boot into windows 7 nor does any TS/RDP solution. Once booted you have the server as a desktop. You use gpos to lock down the server from the users.

Thin clients are dedicated machines like the ones HP sells, can it be done if I have some old Core duo desktop without HD and get them to start up and connect to the server with windows 7 and logon.
