Hi

Trying to setup a differential backup on symantec Backup exec but after a few backup it can't find the files to restore. has it over written my main backup?
Do I do a schedule job to do 1 full backup first on a drive with (using archive bit reset archive bit) and then set another weekly schedule to do the same thing but change it to differential backup changed files since last full using archive bit does not reset archive bit)?
So if a users deleted a folder after I have done a full backup, the differential backup would of backed up this and I can recover it. the differential backup will be reset once I start the full backup again using the bit reset?

has it over written my main backup?

if using the same tape than very possible. you want to append to media not overwrite media.

your description of backup is closer to incremental than differencial

Yes it is set to append to media already and it backs it up onto a Hard disc. But seem to not able to find the media files listed when recovering some files after a few differential backups.

That would indicate the files didn't change. no change = not on backup
