Backing up from DMZ to LAn

Microsoft / Ntbackup

Specs: Windows Server 2003 R2
I am a network administrator for my company. The server team are currently experiencing very slow backup process as they backup data from a server on my DMZ to a shared folder on a server on my inside network using NTBackup. They think it may have something to do with my firewall, but I have checked and the firewall has nothing to do with it. As a tip, they say 550MB of data takes 30 minutes to backup with NTBackup from the server on DMZ to one on the inside. Backing up same data locally to the server takes 4 minutes. Is there any we can do both from the server and network side of things?

Thanks

How are you tunneling your DMZ server through the firewall to your NAT? Are you using a VPN connection, SSL, SFTP or what? I am guessing that the encryption of the data is what is slowing you down.

I recommend not to us NTbackup and write a batch script to compress the files and use either XCOPY or ROBOCOPY to do differential backups to reduce the amount of data you are backing up through the tunnel.
