256 character limit

Specs: Windows XP
I am facing a problem of 256 character length in windows server 2003 machine. Even Admin account is not ready to open that files which are more than 256 character together with parents folders.

You can drill down through the folders as far as Windows will allow you then do a Cut on the folder one level up on the tree then Paste it on the root folder of the tree there by reducing the number of characters in the in the path. This is a known issue in Windows and I wish they would fix it. I have not tested this on a 2008 box yet to see if they have.

It is poor file management practices that causes this issue.

True, the only time I have ever run into this problem is when I screwed up my backup scripts caused the folders to copy into each other instead of replacing. I ended up with back up directory trees that where 60 nodes deep before I caught it and ran into the same problem the op had which is you can;t delete or modify the tree because the path exceeds 255 characters.
