I have a Win2000 Server acting as the domain controller. I have a Win2003 server that is configured to become the new main server AND domain controller.
I need to add the 2003 server to the network ASAP, but do NOT want to swap DC roles just yet.
Is there just a single "service" on the win2003 box I can stop?
Thanks
You appear to be missing some information about AD from your statement. You can bring the 2003 server in as a DC and not move any roles. Have your run adprep on the 2000 DC?
You can't add the 2003 as a DC until you do.The two can live side by side as DCs and you will notice no difference.
Have you read how to do a proper migration from 2000 to 2003? Almost sounds like you are thinking of using the 2003 DC to replace the 2000 DC. Doing so creates a new forest/domain as well as having to create users and join wksts to the domain again.
