I have an aspire one ZG5. The bios has been updated and unlocked so i'm able to access the advance ide settings as well as the other settings "I had this same problem before I even upgraded the bios or removed the 8 gb ssd". As I said it will freeze at "Starting Windows" or it will BSOD with the inaccessible_boot_device error. It does the same when I disable the ide/sata controllers so my hard drive isn't started and as I mention the same problem.
Right now it has a laptop sata drive hooked up which functions fine as windows XP is running smoothly on it. How ever no matter what I try to do I can't get the windows setup to install. I tried sp4 cd as well as an iso and I still get no wheres with it.
If someone can help me out with this I really appreciate it.
Thank you
Well your bound to get the same error when you disable the SATA ports, so that doesn't help you diagnose the cause of the problem one little bit. inaccessible_boot_device error when booting from an optical drive could indicate that the optical drive is faulty.

You can test the optical drive on a different computer.
You can test any make of hard drive (under 3TB) with the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test diagnostic software which loads from a bootable CD or floppy. Download CD Image or Floppy Disk Creator here:

Well I hooked the usb cd drive up to my other laptop and use virtual box to install windows in the virtual pc with the same cd so the cd as well as the usb cd drive works. As for the sata drive I know that works because I was able to boot and install the iso off of that same sata drive on my other laptop. Ever since I hooked it up to the netbook I get that error. If I take the hard drive out of the netbook and try to boot off of the usb drive I get the same error. I even tried using grub4dos to boot the same iso that I made from the cd that I have directly off of the sata drive and I get the same problems. I have no idea what to do now and the iso file does work as it runs fine in the virtual pc as well as my other laptop. Now I was able to install the same cd with the usb cd drive on a Fugiji tablet that is made for 98 and 2000 and the setup runs fine.
I have no idea what to do. The next thing i'm thinking about doing is copying the files onto one of the fat32 partitions and try to install windows directly off of the hard drive in ms-dos. If that doesn't work then idk what to do. If you look up windows 2000 setup hangs zg5 on google alot of other people are having the same issues. The drivers that are installed on the netbook also supports 2000 so I don't see why it shouldn't be able to run it. I also came across as youtube video showing the zg5 booting up with windows 2000.
I'll try the other tool out for the hard drive but as I mention I even had the same problem when I tried to install it onto the internal 8 gb ssd which I removed and replaced with a sata 160 gb hd. So I don't think its a hd problem.
Again thank you for your help

Everything checks out ok. Hard drive works fine. nothing has been detected. I even used the WD hard drive scanner or sealgate scanner, and everything passes. I did every scan and they comeback with no errors Any idea what can be done to get windows 2000 to install and work?
How about explaining why you want to run Win2K in the 1st place?
Could it be that the windows 2000 disk does not have the nessicarry drivers to boot? Use this tool to create a windows 2000 +sp4 with all the drivers / updates needed, and see if the installation goes any smoother.
