windows 2000 pro wants password to log in, and no password.

September 7, 2012 at 20:32:43
Specs: Windows Vista
I have never set a password in windows 2000 professional, and it is asking for a password, and will not take return, or anything else as a password.

What is the work around for this? is there some default password that windows chooses that can't be typed in?

Since there is no way of proving your identity, it is against forum rules to help you with this problem.

Try booting to Windows safe mode by tapping F8 at start up.

This started when I changed the settings for networking, as I was not able to connect to the internet, or network with any other computers.

I was able to get my computer where I could access it again by using Ubuntu and renaming the SAM file and rebooting the system. now I have internet access, and not asked for a password.

I have the same problem with a computer at work running the same o/s, and happened when I tried to backup the computer to another computer. I'm thinking that this is a problem with windows 2000 pro, as I have never had that happen to me with any other operating system.

1. Hit enter key
2. Hit esc key
3. Download a NTFS password remover cd image...they're all over the place. Burn the image to a cd, boot from the cd, and remove all passwords.

It is not clear from your question that you are asking about Windows login password or network connection password. If it is Windows login password problem then you can reset it using Stellar Phoenix password recovery software. On the other hand if it is network password then you can ask network administrator about it.
