WINDOW 7 TS license will expire TS 2000 serve

February 5, 2011 at 08:49:22
Specs: Windows 7, intel 4gig
I have a new Windows 7 business version workstation and it is used to access our Windows 2000 Advance Server using Terminal Services. I am getting a message that my temporary license will expire in 10 days. I do not have this issue with any of my other work stations which are all XP pro. I have attempted to research the license issue. I am confused. It seems that you do not have to purchase any additional license for Terminal Services due to a migration from XP to Vista or Windows 7. I am only using 3 of my 25 TS license allowance. I have read some conflicting information some saying you do most saying you do not.

The fix I have found but I have not implements is to delete the registry key cache in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing. I was wondering if this is what I need to do. I obtained this information from . If anyone could assist it would be great. Thanks in advance.

After 2000 TS and XP they changed the licensing model.

2000 TS licenses were free. 2003 and above are not anymore. To use vista/win7 and TS you will need to upgrade your TS server from 2000 and pay the licensing fees.

or do that reg hack which appears to be a licensing violation so be aware that this can make you liable.
