Tower PC w2k lost its desktop. What pathway to go

Specs: Windows XP
my w2k pro has lost its desktop. This is a tower PC. Would it be cost-effective to upgrade and if yes, to what? Or would it be prudent to dispose of it

"Would it be cost-effective to upgrade and if yes, to what?"

Depends on what the machine currently has (hardware-wise), what it will support, and what you intend to do with it. You don't give any specs on the machine (CPU, RAM, etc.), so there's not really an answer...

"my w2k pro has lost its desktop"

I'm not sure what you mean by that? Can you boot into Windows or not?

If the computer originally came with Win2000 then the answer is that it is not upgradable to any practical degree.

Yes, I can boot into Windows, but after the password, I get just a blue screen
