How to add 2 300 gb drives to raid5

Compaq / Proliant dl380 g2
January 27, 2009 at 09:21:54
Specs: 2000, 1.2 Ghz 1.31 Gb ram
My file server has the following
Smart array 5i Controller, Embedded Slot
Array A
208378 MB, Raid 5, Logical Drive 1

The Physical Configuration view shows
Array A
72.8 GB, Port 2, ID 0
72.8 GB, Port 2, ID 1
72.8 GB, Port 2, ID 2
72.8 GB, Port 2, ID 3

I'm running out of room with this and need to add some drive space.

I've ordered and recieved 2 300 GB Harddrives
3.5 series
300 GB
10,000 RPM
Wide Ultra320 SCSI

how do I add these to the array without killing off my data.

Thank you so much for your help.

answer is you can't. Not only would you waste those drives [raid array would only use 72.8gig - all drives in an array can only be as large as the smallest listed drive] but to reinit a raid array you have to destroy the original.

You would be advised to mirror them instead and create a single 300gig partition.

You can redo drive mapping to make it transparent to the network users.
