Specs: Windows Vista
For some reason I cant log on to the administrator account on my home laptop. It also says it a workgroup when I never set it up as a workgroup. I have always been the owner of this laptop and now I cant even log on to my own computer. I know I didnt change the password on my main account. The password hint is the hint that I put on there to remind me and its still the wrong password. If im on my computer as a standard user and Im denied any downloaded capabilities I cant even download security updates or do system restore. HELP

By default most systems will set to a workgroup when first setup/installed - and M$ assigna a defautl name for it too (can't remember what it is - probably "workgroup"?)

System Restore can often/usually be done without a password too? Boot up and press the correct key combination to invoke the process - via a menu that will "pop up" on the screen...

Another way to "discover" and chnage/reset the password is to use one of several utilities that allow you to do this.

They're out there as downloads; and also bundled in with Knoppix (linux variant on a CD/DVD). has a free ISO to download; save to a hard-drive; burn to a DVD; boot with that and use the utilities included...

And while booted that way - and do this first - safeguard your files/data etc. Copy them to optical-media and/or an external hard-drive and verify those copies are truly accessible on at least one other system. Then set about password recovery etc...
