Specs: Windows 2000 Pro.
I just bought a used laptop with Windows 2000 Pro and do not know the administrator password. Does anyone have a free solution to try for this novice computer user?

It is against forum rules to post a solution to this type of question.

What you should do is ask the seller if they have the media that goes with the laptop so you can reinstall Windows.

iMac G5 1.8GHz "Hero" PowerPC
2 x 1GB DDR PC3200 SDRAM
160GB WDC WD1600JD-40GBB2
Mac OS X Leopard Version 10.5.8

Against forum rules?? Horse Manure!!!

Open the box and remove the hard drive from the problem computer, change the jumpers and slave the HD into another computer and search for a SAM (with no extension) file (ignore the SAM.log, you just want the SAM file).

The one you want is in the D:\WINNT\System32\config. Delete the file and put the HD back in the original box after you change the jumpers back to master.

When you boot it up there will only be Administrator available and the password MUST be left blank.

After you get it all done you will have to create the users over again, but that's simple.

This is from an old post of mine from 04.

Embrace paranoia, they ARE out to get you!

Thank you for all the answers. I am just a novice at this but did try the recommended websites but in order for me to be able to run the downloaded applications, I have to be an administrator. Could you please give me more details about actually changing out the hard drive from one computer to the next? Again, thanks to all of you.
