Windows update the other day was loaded onto my computer and changed my viewer from Irfan View to some solid black thing with white writing. I tried to change my default back by going to "Apps and Features" but my efforts have been ignored. I am unable to open a picture from my desktop with Irfan View directly because Win 10 won't show it in file explorer when I click on desktop. Can anyone enlighten me as to how bend Win 10 to my will?

Type 'Default Programs' into the Windows 10 start area and you should find the right place to set the default programs for each file type.
You can also right click on any file and select "Open With" and choose the program you want. Also in that dialog box there should be a check box for something like 'Set this Program as Default' or 'Use this for all this file type'.

Thank you Fingers. When I opened up my computer this evening all was as it was. I don't know why but I am happy. The area that you directed me to was where I was yesterday. This computer has been squirrely since that patch to fix the processor vulnerability. I also get freeze ups that I never had previously.

MS finally settles all of their glitches and begins to try a few updates which are included in the updates. These cause a bunch of new glitches and we have to wait or work around those until they are resolved. Then it begins all over again. Welcome to Windows 10. I work with Windows 10 at work but I prefer and use Windows 7 at home.
