Solved Windows 10 install on 2nd partitioned HDD

July 24, 2015 at 07:41:34
Specs: Windows 7, Intel i5 4570 3.2 Ghz
How do I...format my 2nd HDD that is partitioned. I want to install W10 on the 40GB partition but when I use the ISO disc it says can`t install. Also how can I include a screenshot?

40GB certainly isn't much space. And what do you mean "ISO disc it says can`t install"? Did you properly burn the ISO to the disc using ImgBurn or similar burning software?

Yes 40GB is enough as its W10 evaluation copy. Disc is burned correctly. Used Imageburn but its when its installing onto the above partition. I believe its set a `Dynamic ' partition and needs to be set to `basic' for the installation to work. For instance my main SSD is set to Basic and W10 will install no problem but don`t really want W10 as my main O/S just yet. So thats why I have the 40GB partition set up up on my 2nd 1TB HDD.

You'll probably have to convert the partition to Basic. Make sure and do a complete system backup first. Just in case.

So how do I convert ONLY the 40GB partition from dynamic to basic as I can`t seem to find an option ? There is no data on it yet so no need to do a back-up.

Why are you trying to install Windows 10 Insider Program now? Are you aware this version will stop working altogether on October 15, 2015. By then you will be stuck with something that cannot be upgraded. The Official Windows 10 upgrade will be released July 29 in stages starting with people in the Insider program.

I am in the insider program btw. But in the meantime wanted to try a 64x build on my main PC while I have a 32x version on my 2nd PC. It`s more of an exercise really. Want to learn how to change from Dynamic to basic if possible. Thanks.
