Win 10 will read FROM DVD but not TO it nor will Win 10 Format. The choise is not in the drop down meny. The DVD is Optarc and I bhavce also tried Pioneer; both SATA
DVD writing is not a strong point in Win 10. Install this small freebie and give it a whirl. It will do most things very well and simply:
https://cdburnerxp.se/en/homeDon't be put off by CD in its title because it does DVDs fine from a simple menu. Similarly XP is nothing to do with that old Windows operating system. CDBurnerXP is well up to steam on Windows 10.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
erm... so CDburnerXP is steam powered? Mon dieu, sapristi! What will they think of next... Think of the electricity it saves... No need now for all those wind farm turbines... We can tear them down and replace with wheat flour grinding mills...
Trvlr, they also make a kerosene powered version, it's a very versatile program! But seriously, I second what Derek says, CD Burner XP is highly recommended. It's free and contains no ads, malware, etc. and does a very good job.
It's OK, it has a safety valve. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Many thanks Derek, I'm giving it a go. It lists hundreds (well...dozens) of DVD and CD burners but of course (Sod's Law) mine isn't amongst them I have Optiarc DVD RW AD-7280 SATA and although there are lots of Optiarcs mine isn't there LOL. the PC is home-brew so I'll change the CD burner to another one I have lying around and give CDBurner a good inverstigation. The final straw is of course returning to Win 7, and then making a wax doll of Microsoft and getting a batch of sharp pins. I'll let you know how I get on. message edited by Madeira
