Win 10 not loading on Asus laptop - Error Code 0xc0000185

Specs: Windows 10, 8 gb
I have an Acer Aspire notebook ( INTEL I3-2350M / 8 GM RAM ) with windows 10 ( which was automatically upgraded from WIN 7 upon the release of WIN 10 ) and the notebook will not load win 10. I tried running a Win 10 installation cd and that too will not load - all I get in an error code 0xc0000185. I tried running a WIN 7 installation cd but that too will not load. Could it be that there is a problem with the hard drive?

The 0xc0000185 error means that the computer can't communicate with the CD drive(maybe why the installation cd didn't work) It could be due to a faulty CD drive or media, a bad connection, faulty interface, bad memory, power supply etc. You will need to isolate the problem and find which one it is, Windows isn't backwards compatible so it won't go back to 7 unless you format the hdd.

I thought as much so I removed the hard drive and formatted it and returned it...but when I tried the Windows 10 Installation disk same error happened - so I put the windows 7 installation disk in the drive and its running now...that must show first of all the CD drive is not faulty. Its running now and will update if and when it finishes installing win 7.

well installed and running win 7 - which I presume eliminates faults in other elements such as power supply...memory..etc etc.... But that brings it all back to the original problem of that error 0xc000185 and windows 10

Hi once again korat2000, there are many, many possible causes for that error.

I have used the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool on about 12 comps, no problems.
