Why saving web file to pdf file not have a Search function

Specs: Windows 10, Intel/12GB RAM

I print/save a pdf file, but when opening the file on my desktop the Search function does not work. Another person saved the same file on his computer and sent it to me as an attachment to an email. When opening his version the Search function work. I'm at a loss to know what to do now to correct my version of the file, and I'm hoping someone can steer me in the correct direction.

It used to work before I got a new computer with Windows 10 rather than Windows 7.

Not sure what went wrong but can't you just save his version onto your computer and use that?

You could download a dummy or sample pdf file to see whether it is just one particular file that is wonky.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I'll reply to all three of your posts. I can use my friend's copy, but only for awhile as the content changes. I'm using adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and I wasn't using ctrl F, but I tried and it does the same thing,

Try this:

Open up PDF file in Adobe Reader
Go to the top menu bar and click Edit then Preferences
When the Preferences box opens, select the Search category on the left
When in the Search category look to the bottom and click on the Purge Cache Contents box/button
Finally Click OK in the bottom right of Preferences and re-attempt search
The PDF should now be fully searchable

Uninstall & re-install Adobe Reader or try a different pdf reader.

I did uninstall/reinstall Adobe Reader about 10 days a ago to solve the problem but that did not work plus it does Search with my friends copy of the same original file that he downloaded to his computer in the same way.

I know there is an answer. My gut tells me there is something wrong with either the printer which uses Microsoft Print to PDF, or with the MS OS. Thanks a bunch, Uncle Dewey

How did you save your unsearchable PDF file?

When you save your friend's searchable PDF file the same way,
does it become unsearchable?

If so, whatever you used to save the file is making it unsearchable.

I have just found out this is a problem with both Firefox and Chrome. I tried using Internet Explorer and I was able to search in that saved pdf file.

Thanks for listening, Uncle Dewey
