I have a dvd i'm trying to play and it just sits there, never starts. the same dvd does work on other laptops .. any help is appreciated
Do other disks play OK in this DVD drive?
See if the drive appears. If so maybe you can play it from there.
Yep, answer to question in #1 would be useful - thx.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

No, no disks are working
What does that mean? lol
Are you saying that no disks will play,be they cd or dvd?
Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, or a DVD drive cleaning kit? If that doesn't work and the drive is removable, try reseating the drive. Otherwise, it sounds like you need to replace the drive.
OK, I'll reword my #2. Go to your drives and find the disk drive. Insert the disk and it then should show there. If it does try playing it from there. What happens at each step might help us towards solving your problem.

I'm not a Win10 user. Does WMP in Win10 have the ability to play DVDs?
DVD playback was removed in Win8. Because tablets don't play DVDs.
So the question is, have DVDs ever played? If not try the answer at #5. VLC Player can always be uninstalled later if it is not needed. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
I feel like this entire conversation depends on what the OP means by "play." Is it "play" as in "decode the movie data and display it," or is it "play" as in "read/enumerate file data?"
