Inspirion 11-3147, running Windows 10,
pop up states "The AC power adaptor type cannot be determined"
Are you using the AC adapter that came with the laptop? Are you sure it's plugged into a working electrical outlet?
It seems that Dell have a lot of trouble with the power jack. Unfortunately if that is the trouble it is not easy to fix yourself. If nobody comes up with a better idea consider returning it under the warranty.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

It is the original cord and a green light is on on the adapter. Yes I have checked the outet, it works. I have only had this for 2 months. Thank you answers like this have taught me what to check.
I called Dell and was told it definitely a Win 10 upgrade issue. I don't necessarily agree. I will call for warranty if I can not do this myself. Thanks for your help.
So you upgraded to Windows 10 from 8 and that's when the problem started? That seems odd. My bet is on a bad power jack for the A/C adapter. The system will stay powered up, but will not charge the battery.
If you try and replace that or the MOBO yourself, you're going to void your warranty.
I would contact them again. If you have on-site service, get a tech to come to your home and replace the MOBO.
Are you telling us you are having TWO different issues? - 1) 'battery plugged in not charging ?
and
2) The AC power adaptor type cannot be determined

I called Dell because the first two suggestions didn't work. After 3 hours on the phone and remote assistence, I was told, "We are sending you a new power cord, AC adapter. If that does not fix the problem we will further help you." I was happy, this time contacting Dell I actually got a tech that liked and did her job. Anyway I would say there are two issues. Will see what happens.. Thank you all for your input.
