Solved Why does my laptop's pointer keep getting frozen?

September 7, 2019 at 16:55:54
Specs: Windows 10
I have a brand new ASUS laptop. It is running the most current windows version 1903. I have only had this laptop for about 5 days and it already is experiencing an issue: the pointer frequently gets frozen. It seems to happen when the lid has been closed after I open it.
I called ASUS ; we uninstalled and reinstalled the PTP Driver, the ATK Package and the MEI Intel Windows 10 64 Version (?) yet the problem still exists. Could this issue be a Microsoft issue which comes gratis with a major update for which they will possibly applying a fix and not an ASUS matter?---similar to my previous problem of the night light feature malfunctioning?
p.s. A restart will provide a fix until it happens again.

If driver reinstall and above basic fixes do not fix the issue then I would save my personal data, rest the laptop to factory and try to duplicate the issue. If it is still there then I would return it for a new one. If it works then I would run Windows Update manually and see if the problem comes back. If it does then I would return it anyway (or possibly wait a week to see if new updates from MS fixes the issue. If everything is good then put your stuff back on and give it a chance.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Are you using a wired or wireless mouse?
Have you tried either of above?

This laptop is meant to be used with its touchpad and that is how I always use all of my laptops. Not sure why you are asking, but I have grabbed the mouse so that I could move the pointer to the Restart button. Since then, I have come to realize that I no longer need to use the mouse when the pointer is frozen; I hit the windows button and X and navigate with my up/down arrows to restart. Incidentally, everything else works on the laptop when the pointer is frozen with the exception of the backlight of the keyboard which goes dark.

"Not sure why you are asking"
Trying to isolate the area where the problem lies.

Here are some fixes to try. Naturally, you only try what applies to your circumstances.
