How old is her laptop? It might be that your running a newer WiFi protocol on your router in the 5 Ghz range and her laptop only uses the older 2.4 Ghz protocols.

Ok, that's certainly new enough to use the latest 5Ghz protocols.

Let's start with rebooting the router. Remove the power plug on your router for 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Give it a good minute to come back online and check if you can see it now.

If this doesn't work, go to Toshiba's website and see if they have updated drivers for that model latop.

Does your computer find other WiFi sources nearby?
Mine currently detects 19, including my own router which
I'm connected to. 17 of the other 18 sources are secured,
so I would not be able to connect to them. I recognize
the owners of some by their names. One clearly belongs
to the VFW lodge next door. The one which is not secured
belongs to Xfinity. I could connect to it if I wanted to.

Are you saying that your granddaughter's computer is not
detecting *ANY* WiFi sources like those? Or is it just not
detecting the one source that you want to use?

One reason I ask is that I set my router to make only one
WiFi connection at a time. In the unlikely case that your
router is set the same way, when your computer is already
connected to it, your granddaughter would then not be able
to connect. However, she should still see the names of all
the WiFi sources nearby.
