Solved why can't I format dvd/cd for USB in Windows 10?

January 1, 2018 at 05:04:07
Specs: Windows 10
windows 10 not able to format dvd/cd-r - never used to be a problem but now it has become so bad that I bought a back-up laptop just for burning files (pictures & pdf's) to disc. Is there any way I can fix this problem without taking my PC for repair?

Many folks on this forum use cdburnerxp and recommend it. It is perfectly safe and much more useable than anything that comes with Win10.

It's possible you have a virus or malware - what AV do you use?

Run these two freebies in the order given because they often unearth what AV's miss:
AdwCleaner:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcle...
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Clean" button.

MalwareBytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
(use the "Free Download" button rather than the "Buy Now" button).
After the install go to "Settings > Protection". Under Scan Options move the "Scan for rootkits" slider over to On and Run the Threat Scan. Quarantine anything it finds.

As for the reported issue, are you sure you were not formatting DVD or CD "RW" in the past?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

CD-R are formatted during the process of burning data etc. to the disk.

Have you tried the routine(s) outlined here?

http://www.dummies.com/computers/op...

https://www.easytechguides.com/burn...

and this free burner software package is ven easier/better

https://cdburnerxp.se/en/home

It's compatible with windows XP through to win-10

my antivirus totally blocks https://cdburnerxp.se/en/home
and as I already wrote, I've been saving files to discs for a long time. I'm looking for an answer to the Windows 10 glitch with formatting blank DVD's while it has been successfully formatting DVD's for the past few years.

How do you know it's a Windows 10 glitch, maybe your drive is going bad.

It would help if you posted more information such as how it's failing, error messages, etc.

Cdburner is perfectly safe. Is there not an option in your virus settings to allow a given download through?

As stated, you do NOT have to format discs before using them. They are formatted during the burning process. We don't know which AV software or burning software you're using, but the CDBurnerXP site is 100% safe.

Some Antivirus solutions do falsely detect CDBurnerXP as a virus infected file.
Go to:
https://cdburnerxp.se/download?more-options

Select one of the Versions of Default installer (Without installCore).

Cause it's the InstallCore, that seams to act, like some viruses.

Was your input a request for help or were you giving advice?
The symptoms described in your link are nothing near the same as the query on this thread which is about CD/DVD formatting.
