Solved What to do when restart button in Win 10 keeps turning

June 12, 2019 at 08:32:21
Specs: Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
What can I do when i hit the "restart" button and Win 10 does not restart ? The circle of dots keeps on running and keeps on running without restarting the Win 10 PC. I can restart using brutal force by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del or pressing the reset button om the PC, but that doesn't seem right. How to solve this aberrant working of Windows ?

Just to get the simple touch out of the way:
Turn off and unplug power. Remove battery if it is a laptop. Hold Power Off/On button in for at least 20 seconds to discharge the motherboard components. Re- assemble and see if that helps.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

First is to find out which step is causing Windows shutdown to hang. To do that, open the Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator, and run the following:
reg add hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v verbosestatus /t REG_DWORD /d 1

"hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v verbosestatus /t REG_DWORD /d"

I just tested that command, doesn't work on my W10.

Works on my Win10 boxes. Run the command as admin? Sure you copy / pasted it correctly?

"Works on my Win10 boxes"
Very good, that proves it is correct.

I did Copy & Paste into admin, but I just tried again & noticed I did not capture the full command.

Do you include > reg add?
I did & it successfully added it to the registry.

How does that now help please?
