Solved What does this error message about atibtmon.exe mean?

November 23, 2015 at 07:50:07
Specs: Windows 10
Hello,
Since I updated to Windows 10 I've been having this error message every time I restart my computer:
"ERROR. WINDOWS\System32\atibtmon.exe has been shut down in an unusual way."
What does it mean? And what is "Atibtmon"?
I can't find that program anywhere in my PC and I don't remember ever downloading it, is it a Malware or something like that? What must/can I do?
I'm a real newbie when it comes to computers so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Lei

You don't give the make or model number of your computer but see this:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/documen...

If you can find it Uncheck "Enable Vari-Bright".

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thank you for answering so quickly!
Sorry for not including that information I didn't know it was relevant...
So my Computer is an ACER "Aspire" 5551 series, does that change things?.
Unfortunately I didn't understand most of what was on the link you posted... I did a thorough scan of my computer searching for corrupt files and program errors (which was most of what I DID understand I should do)...
Thank you again for your help and any further advice you could offer me. :)

Thank you for answering so quickly!
Now I know what it is I feel a lot better.
... although I still don't really know how to make it so that the Error message stops appearing... I'll do a thorough scan of my computer for missing or corrupt files and program errors... I hope that does the trick since I don't know what else I could do...
Thank you again for your help and any further advice you could give me.

Go to your normal Search (eye glass bottom left). Type CCC and see what it gives you. CCC is short for Catalyst Control Center. If it finds either of those select "Advanced".

Then follow the rest of the procedure in the link given in response #2 above - item 2 onwards. You are aiming to disable the Vari-Bright feature (see last line on there) by
de-selecting the Enable Vari-Bright option.

Nothing to do with corrupt files.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
