Weird Win 10 Deleting Issue

Microsoft Windows xp home edition eng 3p...
May 7, 2020 at 11:09:10
Specs: Windows 10, 64 bit OS/4 GB
In Win Explorer I deleted some files yesterday but they don't show as being deleted. However, when I click on them I get an error message saying, "Windows can't find the file and make sure you typed the name in correctly." So they're gone but still show as being on my drive. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The question that must be asked:

Have you shut down the system completely and rebooted? If not, it's certainly worth a try.

Inspired by DerbyDad's question, I will add:

What type(s) of files were they?
How were they created?

Also, were they on your main C drive or an external drive or card?

Or perhaps an internal D drive.

(Just making sure we cover all bases.)

Until you empty the recycle bin the files are still on your drive.

You could try a forensic software like Autopsy(Data Carving tool) https://www.sleuthkit.org/autopsy/
Could be able to restore the files so you could check them out.

Perhaps you had opened/used the files before you deleted them, and they are showing in your Recents list.
