Solved Unable to locate an installable MS Edge

Gigabyte / Ga-78lmt-s2p

Specs: Windows 10, 8gig
I think Microsoft would be the most difficult mob to deal with. Unhappily I uninstalled and deleted Edge and search as I might I cannot find a site to download from. Every download button I click takes me to MS.com and every download button I click there takes me back to MS.com.

From where can I download this install file?

Any and all help will be appreciated... Regards

Late Edit: Softonic is useless

Most Edge removal procedures I've seen appear to be a bit geeky. Tweaking.com might well restore it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Only browsed through this site very quickly, hopefully it'll help?

I don't think MS provide a download for Edge - it is part of Win 10 and they did not intend it to be uninstalled.

If all else fails maybe you have a restore point otherwise there are various recovery options:

Good to see your name again Ewen.

I did not know you could uninstall Edge. #2 above is probably your best chance without a reinstall.
Tweaking.com has a great repair tool for Windows including Windows 10, but I do not know if they consider Edge a core system component, IF they do, maybe it would replace it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

My apologies for my late return but I am afraid Microsoft lived up to all my expectations with regard t o support for Edge. I installed the pro version of Tweaking com and it repaired a days work of errors... but Edge? No!

I tried all the script solutions using Power-shell but I drew a blank there as well. The scrpts ran well enough (copy and paste jobs) but they all failed to deliver the goods. I did manage to restore Edge to the point where it would open... and promptly close 30secs. later. So back to Power-shell and more scripts to no avail.

So its back to Chrome (I scrubbed Firefox because it was becoming way to big.

My thanks to Derek, AlwaysWillingToLearn, and Fingers for all their help.

Check it out again after the fall creators update - it might happen to fix it.

Thank you Derek, I had a Creators update recently unhappily (with regard to my original query) I replaced my system in a fit of pique with an earlier Macrium backup without backing up the current system result... no update. Is it possible to 1.) reinstall an earlier update 2.) get a listing of updates to check against?

Do you happen to have a Disk Image (MS Back up or other) from before Edge was deleted. If you do, you make a back up of all of your important stuff to external media, then reimage the hard drive from your image, and finally restore your current back up. You should only loose programs and updates from the time after the image was made.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Just in case I didn't make it clear, the "Fall Creators Update" will come along later, the one we now have is just called "Creators Update". I wonder why MS love using the same names again for everything - perhaps they like confusion. Goodness knows (for example) how many "Outlooks" there have been.

Fingers the back up (two in fact) were made after Edge was deleted. It was only later that I discovered that I liked Edge (somewhat) and decided to re-install. Both images had no Edge and this as you have learned was the start of my problem.

Derek the update I spoke of is in fact the "Creators Update", I look forward to the Fall Creators Update because as you say it may fix things. How will I know when it becomes available... or do I have to check "Updates" regularly?

I'm afraid this is an aspect of MS and Windows that I have never paid much attention to and as a result I come across as a complete newbie.

All advice gratefully received.

No guarantee it will fix anything - it's just that sometimes major updates have been known to.

Go to "Windows icon bottom left of screen > Settings cog > Update & Security" you will see it all there.
All we know so far is it is due in autumn 2017. As often as not these big updates get delayed. In any event I wouldn't try to get it before it is on general release because bugs are common and can take at least a few weeks for MS to iron out.

Thanks Derek, I checked up and all my updates go back to May 2017 for Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703. I think perhaps my backups were missing bits and pieces of the Creators Update.

I'll keep checking though and I'll put this post on the back-burner until later then I'll follow up and keep you posted.

Regards to all until then.

Just to add that on V1703 there has been at least one cumulative update per month since May 2017.

They might not be appearing on the summary list - they can vanish. In Update history go to "Uninstall Updates". There you should find a comprehensive list of updates. You can click the column headings to change the order to date or whatever.

Thanks again, if I get into strife I'll get back earlier. BUT if I find an update I don't have can I install it from somewhere?

MS have automated everything so all the updates you need should be there. It is possible to add them manually (although it should not be necessary) but you have to know the KB numbers and dates.

Bear in mind that for cumulative updates they are just that, so you only need the latest one. If you think you might be missing something pop back and I might be able to help somehow. The only hang up I have is that when I go to MS on the internet I get UK websites rather than USA but I should still be able to fathom them out. This is from a GB site but maybe when you go there it will be USA:

Regards and I will get back with updates,
