Trying to access shared files and printer from Windows 10 PC

March 23, 2016 at 15:52:19
Specs: Windows 8&10
Windows 8 and 10 PCs were able to access printer and drive/files through shared printer and network sharing (map network drive) from Windows 7 PC. Upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now those other PCs cannot access printer nor the drive/files. I have been googling and searching on answers and nothing seems to help. Can finally map to network drive on windows 8 PC, but then is says access denied.

Your question isn't clear. Are the shared files/printers located on the recently upgraded PC? And, you're trying to access them from the Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs?

What type of Home Sharing did you setup on the newly upgraded system? Have you verified permissions?

The printer and an external drive are connected (USB) to the main PC (Used to have windows 7, now upgraded to Windows 10). When in Windows 7 the other 2 PCs (Windows 8 and 10), could map network drive to the external drive (used for backup) and print to the printer. I originally didn't do anything on windows 10 (only been on it 2 weeks and hadn't realized they could no longer print or access external drive). I've tried to to make sure the printer is shared (it was) and full access to the drive. Originally had the problem where it wanted them to enter user name and password, got around that by turning off that password protection sharing. The other two PCs can now see and map to the drive, but then it gives the error "windows cannot access \\computer\drive\folder. you do not have permission to access your network administrator to request access.

If you could tell me where all to check and what to set, I would so appreciate it. Thank you!
