Sony movie studio 13 won't install.

Hi, there, I am helping my son install Sony Movie Studio 13 on his PC. But, I keep getting a message that says there is a newer version installed & to uninstall it first.
Fine, but, there is NO Sony Movie Studio on his PC.

I got some advice that it may be a program installed that doesn't say Sony but it was made by them. Now, my son has Freemake Video Converter & VIEVU PATROL installed. Could it be one of those two?
I uninstalled K-Lite Code Pac which came with the PC & I saw on a forum that it is a no no. But, that didn't help.

I also checked the registry & deleted the Sony Movie Studio entries.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.!!

BTW, he has a dell optiplex 5040 running win10. It is 64 bit.
P.S. Sorry, not sure what category to put it in. Hope it's correct.

If you found Sony Movie Studio entries in the registry, that suggests that a version is indeed already installed despite you saying it isn't.

Follow this guide on how to correctly uninstall an application in Windows 10 (you don't do it by deleting entries in the registry):

I'd agree with Phil. Someone must have previously installed a newer version of Sony Movie Studio on that PC, hence the registry entries. (It should be fairly obvious if you had other Sony software installed - even so, it seems unlikely that it would register itself under an incorrect name.) You need to reinstall that version then remove it properly.

Is it possible that he installed Movie Studio from some other source? Perhaps he installed a trial version?

Is this a legal version of Movie Studio (not pirated)?

Hi, Phil,

First of all, I have uninstalled ALL the versions(trial) that my son had on the PC. I am not a newbie, and I do not know where an installed version could be hiding, but I shall look.
Besides programs & features, he has Wise Program Uninstaller, which is normally used to uninstall apps, and CCleaner.

@ijack, it was trial versions that were previously installed.

@THX 1138, yes, it is a LEGAL version, not pirated.

Anyways, I shall see if there is one that is still installed.

You might try Revo Uninstaller. It finds things that the built in Windows uninstaller won't find.

Hi, THX 1138,

Is it better than Wise Program Uninstaller? I used REVO some years ago, and Wise seems to be very similar, cleans out registry & left over files.

Hi Balscarlet, I can't vouch for Wise, I've never used it.
