Solved Sleep mode not working after nvme ssd upgrade on windows 10

April 18, 2020 at 16:10:58
Specs: Windows 10 pro for workstation , I7 7700HQ/16 GB Dual
Hi I am facing a similar issue except that in my case even sleep is not working... when I close the lid or put it to sleep via start menu it turns off completely and next time I press power button it starts from scratch.

Notebook: Msi gv62 7rd
RAM : Added 8 gb crucial basic dual channel with existing 8 gb
Ssd : added an nvme m.2 pcie gen3 Crucial P1 ssd as boot and since then sleep issue exists.

Tried a fresh reinstall of windows twice but no luck

Is it because of the ssd or RAM or EC

✔ Best Answer
I would check BIOS settings for sleep states, NVME and anything related.
I would also look into Windows Personalize and power settings.
Make sure that Sleep is set to sleep and not hybrid sleep.
Make sure that power settings is set to typical Laptop settings.
In Advanced Power Settings make sure that Hard Drive is set to Never Power Down, it will anyway when you invoke sleep but may complicate wakening and the SSD drive uses very little power and regulates itself anyway.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks for your suggestion but when I tried this the system went to sleep but when I try to wake up I could see the keyboard backlight turns on but nothing shows up on display ... seems to be stuck

Strangely in my BIOS it only shows up under storage but in boot priority setting I see only my HDD ...also I have tried all of your suggestion still seems to be some issues with waking up the system from sleep. Appreciate your assistance

Also I am noticing the power plan settings are automatically reset to original state after each reboot the setting which I have set won't take effect may be that is why sleep is not working? The solution should work but only my system resets it each time?

Maybe your C: drive is full ? Many weird stuff happens when that is the case. Some programs/features suffer earlier from that, like possibly: sleep & hibernate.

Nope it's a fresh install on a new 512 GB Nvme drive and I also happen to have a 1TB HDD for additional storage so storage shouldn't be an issue
