Solved second monitor not recognised

May 4, 2019 at 03:57:26
Specs: Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
Have used Linux Mint 19 which worked fine, but I was missing some things I could not get running. So for practical reasons I wanted to put back Win 10 and then Linux as dual boot. Have first installed windows 10 home and then bought a legal license from MS for it. But trying to tweak the interface of Win 10 nothing seems to work. Updated all the motherboard drivers but still no success. I will have to ask a number of questions, but will do that one by one.

My first problem is that Windows tells me there is no second monitor, but it worked in the previous win 10 I had and it worked fine in Linux Mint. Both monitors now show the same content, even the mouse appears in both monitors. I have a summary of Speccy but do not know how to insert them in this discussion.

"We recently noticed that a number of our monitors have the possibility that your UAC (User Account Control) will be deactivated in Windows 7 or higher. This is possible when the bundled software is installed on these monitors."

OK. Did you install the bundled software? If you did, why? As I stated in my other response, monitors don't need special drivers or software. What is the purpose of this software? It might help to post model & model number.

As for UAC, I disable it on my Windows systems. As far as I'm concerned, it's just an annoyance.

You probably need to install the graphics driver.

Have found an update for the Philps software that installed "User Account Control" (UAC).

The LG monitor has a problem with the UAC, which deactivates the stuff when it is used on a windows version higher than win 7. They give you 6 different updates in *.zip files to correct that problem, but don't tell you which one to use. Looked if there was an explanation in the *.zip, but found nothing to read there. I have sent a mail to them to help me out and a reply comes in two days. Keep you informed.

#5 doesn't sound right. UAC is a normal part of Windows. Unless you've disabled it, it pops up automatically any time you install updates, software, or make other major changes. Here's an example: https://www.top-password.com/blog/w...

What does Philips have to do with an LG monitor? Monitors generally don't need any special software or drivers. Make sure you have the correct graphics drivers installed & depending on what they are, you either configure the monitors via the graphics driver software (such as AMD Radeon settings) or you use Windows display settings.

"Both monitors now show the same content"

That means you have it set to duplicate (or mirror) the display rather than extend.

BTW, I've been running Mint for several years. What is it you're unable to do with it?

Hello riider, John and Fingers,

First of all, I probably didn't use the link: http://www.fileconvoy.com/index.php right. Now I'll try again after sending you this reply

Regarding the message of LG that their monitor lease look at the link: .

We recently noticed that a number of our monitors have the possibility that your UAC (User Account Control) will be deactivated in Windows 7 or higher. This is possible when the bundled software is installed on these monitors.".

As I said in my initial question, I have a number of problems. Now that they say that the UAC may be damaged the problems might all be related to that UAC. I tried to download that so called update, but didn't succeed. When I tried to email LG and asked which of the 6 suggestions I should download I got the answer that "there was no update".

So my question now is there a possibility to restore that UAC that was damaged by the software that LG put on my MONITOR at an earlier date, an now connected the monitor to my new Win 10. I used the monitor also on Win 7 and Ubuntu and Mint?

Am I illusioning things and can the UAC still work, but not fully?

Hello riider, Johnw and Fingers,

I never did install any software for monitors. The device has been used as second monitor before with Win 7, Win 10 Linux Mint and Ubuntu. Now I think I'll give up, but before that, I want to try to disable UAC, but how do I do that?

Thanks to all of you.
