I am hoping someone can help me with this annoying problem. I'm using Win10 v2004 Build 19041.388. A month or so ago the Recycle Bin icon started to disappear from time-to-time from my desktop, leaving just the words Recycle Bin behind. This happens especially if I empty the Recycle Bin but can also occur arbitrarily and I found that I can usually restore it by selecting F5 on my keyboard. I have trawled the Internet and have tried many, many 'solutions' all to no avail - so it's over to the experts! Pete

Things have changed with Windows 10, The icon cache fix is more convoluted (but still worth a try):

Because websites often stay active for years the old fix is still around. Using it on Win 10 causes no harm but it doesn't work

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Try rebuilding your icon cache.

Open a File Explorer window.
At the top left click the view tab and select(check)"Hidden Items.
Go to C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local.
Right click on IconCache. db and click on Delete.
Click on Yes to confirm the deletion. ...
Close the window.
Empty the Recycle Bin.
Restart the computer.

PS. It would be helpfull if you told us what you have tried so we don't keep sugesting fixes you have already done.

Well, you set the record for an ultra-quick answer! I've just tried the icon cache reset you suggest - but no effect, I'm afraid. I've also noticed the Bin icon disappears when you put something in it as well as when you delete something already in.
I have tried so many things from the Internet that I can't remember details I'm afraid but everything I've attempted has failed and I've spent the last few weeks searching for a solution daily. I don't really want to re-install Win10 and I am loath to try an in-place upgrade because it upset many of my installed programs when I last tried it and was a nightmare for me to get them up and running again because I suffered a bad stroke a short while ago and the 'little, grey cells' are not what they used to be!
Thank-you so much for taking the trouble to reply. Pete

What happens if you right click on the desktop & then click refresh? Does the Bin icon reappear? I think pressing F5 is the same thing.

Did you try going to the icon settings, uncheck the box next to Recycle Bin, & click Apply so it disappears altogether. Then recheck the box & click Apply again?

Well, at the moment it's still on my Desktop so the minute it disappears again I'll post a reply. I've tried Personalize - Themes- Desktop Icon Settings and ensured Recycle Bin was checked, though (which it was). Regards Pete

Go to settings> Personalization > Themes. Then click on Desktop icon settings. Select the Recycle Bin check box and click Apply.
