Solved Problem accessing folders/files after upgrade to Windows 10

September 5, 2015 at 05:05:45
Specs: Windows 10
Why are some folders/files denied to me since upgrade to windows 10.

I have tried resetting the permissions to folders then to the individual files, but with no success. First error msg is "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to permanently get access to this folder" This is followed by "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab" None of this worked.

Are these user files/folders or system files/folders?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi Derek,
they are files and folders that were on my second hard drive, i.e. E:/
Not all files and folders were affected which is why it is all such a mystery. On the E drive I had a load of files etc, all accessible. One folder contained Documents I'd created separate to My Documents on the C:/ drive. And only some of these files/folders defied me.
By setting permissions to some folders, I could gain access to the files within, but then I couldn't open the files.
Additional information is that I had upgraded my PC with new motherboard, processor and graphics card. I then had to re-install win7 and then upgraded to win10 after the updates were done.
Any ideas, thanks

It seems you are not alone. See this lot:

I'm in UK but I assume the Google search would be similar from USA.

It's pointless me trying to cherry pick answers and Win 10 is too new to fall back on experience. Seems to me there is a lot that still needs fixing so maybe some future Windows update will help.

Thanks Derek,
I'm in UK too, and I found some other sufferers of the same problem. I'm off on holiday tonight so I'll put all this on hold for a couple of weeks. Perhaps by then Microsoft will have put out a fix.
Thanks for your interest anyway.

I had the same problems, got it solved with icacls command. Read more here? http://scforum.info/index.php/topic...

All my NTFS user/group permissions were ok, still I couldn't save pictures to my Pictures folder, after a repair upgrade of Windows 10...
