No installed printers are working

February 6, 2018 at 14:33:54
Specs: Windows 10, AMD Turion 2.4GHz/4GB RAM
I don't print often but I the last time I did try everything was working perfectly. I had my printer installed and working just fine for about a year now, but recently if I try to print I get the error message "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup". I get the same error regardless which printer I use, even if I try to print to any of my .PDF printer drivers.

If I try to print from my application, MS Word For Example, my printer, along with all the other .pdf print drivers and etc. are listed as options to print to. See attachment 1. They all state in a "ready" status, but when I hit print, I get the error stated above.

In my device manager, it lists no printers at all. See attachment2.

In printers and scanners, it will only show my Quicken .PDF print driver, but as not connected. Attachement3.

In devices and printers it also lists just the Quicken PDF printer. Attachment4.

If I attempt to re-install my printer driver it will just hang indefinitely. (I don't recall which step in the install process though).

The printer is a network attached (non-wifi) and other computers on my home network can print to it just fine.

Any suggestions on what the issue could be?

Thanks

"Any suggestions on what the issue could be?"

I can go through these logs & look for clues.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
If we have to run Farbar more than once, refer this SS.
http://i.imgur.com/yUxNw0j.gif
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the Desktop.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt) on the Desktop.
The logs are large, upload them using one of these. No time delays/Captcha-I'm not a Robot/account/registration needed. Give us the links please.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have uploaded the logs to the following link. I have also included the original screenshots as I realized I never attached them upon starting this post.

The first thing I would do is restart the machine and the printer. This often helps.
If the printer is showing in Devices and Printers but does not work, delete the printer icon there by right clicking on it. Then go to add printer and have the system scan for available printers on the network. If they are not network printers but plugged into other machines make sure that those machines show them as shared printers. If the add printer does not find the printer use the printer is not shown and the advanced options to find it/them. You can probably get a print out from the printer with the printers IP address and MAC address which will make it easier to find it/them.
You can also download the printer software for the printer which will also have its ways to find the network printer and install it.
Note that printing to a PDF usually means printing it to a printable PDF file that is stored on your machine but not printed, not what you really need now.
You also can look in Services to see if the Print Spooler is running (start if necessary) as this is required for printing today though restarting the machine should fix this normally.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Here is the link to the addition log:

http://www.fileconvoy.com/dfl.php?i...

I tried restarting and didn't work. Print spooler is running. The printer is NOT showing in devices and printers. It only shows in the print dial box from within any application (example File->Print).

I understand that "printing to PDF" does not actually print anything but merely makes a PDF of the document you want to print. I only mentioned it because even those "drivers" do not work and throw the error stated in my original post.

Add printer- system scan does not find anything. If I try to reinstall the printer it will just hang indefinitely (I cant remember at which exact step though)

Copy & Paste the text in Blue below & save it into Notepad on your Desktop & name it fixlist.txt
NOTE: It is important that Notepad is used. The fix will not work if Word or some other program is used.
NOTE: It is important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

loooonggg shot... do you have a firewall invoked or anything else which might be in the way?

Also - if you connect directly tot he printer (usb presumably) ca you print then?

to trvlr:
thanks for the suggestion, but no, well besides the basic windows firewall, which no changes have been made to, well ever. Unfortunately, the printer is a big bulky color laserjet and on the other side of the house I do not have a USB cable long enough to reach it and not looking forward to moving it. And since this issue is affecting all installed "printers" (the quotes are for all the other .pdf drivers I have), I doubt the issue is isolated to this one device (or connection it has).

That particular SS came from Word 2013 and cant right click- properties, however under the dropdown is a printer properties "button/link". (Capture1) when clicked it crashes word.

If I attempt to print from another program, IE for example I get capture2.
Right click - properties, I get capture3
Click ok on that I get Capture4
Click no on that I get Capture5

Right click -properties on a pdf printer takes me straight to the properties of that "printer"

Are any of those using W10 64-bit?

Try to install this work around.

Johnw. I took a break from this for a few days. but here is the latest update. I tried the workaround in the firs link in your last response. I installed a new driver directly from the print server properties. Just as when I try to add a driver the traditional method, the installer froze. It did however install a second instance of my HP printer, but did not solve anything.

Neither of the HP printer instances (or any other pdf driver for that matter) are listed in Printers and Scanners in the Settings (capture1) or in Devices and printers from the control panel (capture3). However going to file->Print does now show this second instance of the printer (Capture2).

I do not think this is a Windows 10 compatibility issue with my HP 3600 as it was working just fine a few weeks ago. Also, no other "printers" (meaning the .PDF printers) are even showing as installed printers.

http://www.fileconvoy.com/dfl.php?i...

I ran the HP Print and Scan doctor and it did not seem to do anything.

Have you tried installing the printer directly to the problem computer - via usb? I did suggest this test earlier, (#7) but no evidence that you actually tried it?

The printer is heavy and across the house. on top of that I do not have the correct USB A/B cable, so no I have/can not try that.

How difficult is it to take the problem computer to the printer?

If you don’t have the correct usb cable, how did you set up/install the printer at first: most printers require a usb setup first via one computer; followed by network configuration...

Once the printer is correctly installed via one computer, then any computers wishing to use it over a network must the corrrect drivers etc. installed (on each computer).

Unless your problem computer is the size of a Kray or similar, try taking it to the printer and installng the printer directly to that computer;which means you need to secure (buy) the correct usb cable - usually quite cheap on Amazon, Egghead etc.?

"I do not think this is a Windows 10 compatibility issue with my HP 3600 as it was working just fine a few weeks ago"
When I Googled, I did find the users in my previous links, had compatibility issues with your printer & W10.

So the 3600 may have compatibility issues with Windows 10 but my issue is on a much larger picture...
In other random troubleshooting, I just downloaded a free "print to pdf driver". it installed just fine, and actually is showing up in the printers and scanners (capture1) and devices and printers (capture2) ,as also with the other installed devices that are NOT showing up in those previous mentioned windows (capture3).

But yet if I try to "print" to this newly added device. I still get an error as like all other devices... I choose this "printer" and then it asks me where it wants to save the .pdf, as it should, but after I click Save, I get the error shown in Capture4. I get this same capture4 error regardless which printer or pdf print driver I use..

I am not just troubleshooting the HP 3600 printer, but all print devices on my system are failing...

So the tool ran overnight in safe mode and I rebooted this morning. Here is the update...
Upon reboot I was presented with a unfamiliar icon on my taskbar (capture2)
When clicking it I am presented with the dialog in Capture1. Notice the highlighted issue being spoolsrv.exe When I click view the message I get the screen shown in photo1. Note that on this screen the computer was in a "frozen" state. I could not move the mouse or click around. It stayed like that for about 2 minutes then reverted back to the login screen.

As for the printer issues, nothing has changed

She's breathing!!!

I followed the steps in this document...
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...

I just started over, with deleting every print driver installed, as per the method above. The strange thing though is after renaming the registry keys back to their original names as per step 16, the original installed printers started showing back up in devices and printers after about 10 minutes, without having to re-install the drivers/software. This was a plus because nothing was showing in this window prior. This morning after they "re-appeared" I still couldn't print anything though, even to pdf. Clicking File->Print just did nothing... no error, no print dialog, nothing.

Going to the print properties of any printer (right clicking from devices and printers) threw an error, but clicking through it I eventually was able to access the printer properties. I left it alone for a while and went to work. When I came back to it just now, everything seems to be working fine. File->Print now works as it should, unlike this morning, and I can print to pdf and my actual printer without error, so far...

Will continue to monitor and see if stays working.
