Solved Network icon sometimes doesn't appear

Specs: several
HP laptop, new in 2016, running Windows 10 which was on it,
re-installed by me a year ago from the "Recovery" partition.
I use it almost every day, usually in the same location so
it is usually plugged into the AC 24/7, but turned off or
asleep when I'm not using it.

I use the "Network" button in the Notification area to pop
up the "Airplane mode" and "Wi-Fi" buttons when I want to
access or quit access to the Internet. Those two buttons
are duplicated in the Action Center, which has its own
button right next to the "Network" button.

The "Network" icon in the Notification area shows up when I
turn the computer on or re-start, but often does not show up
when the computer wakes up after sleep. In such cases I can
use the corresponding buttons in the Action Center instead.

I don't remember if this has been going on all along, or if
it has gradually happened more frequently over time.
Any ideas why this happens or how to fix it?

Since not many folk probably do this it is possible it is a Windows bug that has slipped through without MS knowing about it. You might find it gets cleared up with the next features update (by intent or by chance).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
