This how to copy photos to cd is pretty straight forward; you can click on "skip the survey" and thus get to the guide.

"Usually'" formatting occurs during any burn process when using non rerecordable media. If using rerecordable media the same applies, but one can also use a utility to preformat.

Incidentally I suggest you use cdrw first as a test. Then once you're comfortable with the routines, try using cdr. Also I suggest you make two sets of any photo cd/dvd; in-case one set gets lost/damaged? And adopt a similar safeguard for any critical/important files.

Get some decent software, not the crap included with Windows. Try CDBurnerXP. It's free & works with all Windows versions since Win2000.
