move most used apps to left side of screen

Specs: Windows 10
When I right click start, the windows does not automatically appear. Then it appears on the middle of the page over my desk top wallpaper.
How do I get it back to a vertical menu style?

Windows seems to be running. When you say Windows is it "desktop icons" that you really mean? As per #1 a picture of what you are seeing would help. It sounds as if you need to set Auto Arrange, if so this link should help:

tablet mode?, should be a ytoggle button in the action center(bottom right of the screen)

I'm nearly certain the poster means the Start Menu, not desktop icons.

Tablet mode was my guess, too, but I never used it, so I've forgotten
how it looks and works.
