If you can, download a typical anti-virus rescue disk - there are many out there; see if you can boot from that. It will update itself after loading into RAM only. Then it will scan the system entirely and hopefully remove any pests it discovers...

This link will take you a selection of the (allegedly) ten best...

Download the ISO file and burn to a DVD; boot with that DVD.

These disks are free.

You can use any computer to download whichever ISO and burn to DVD.

These disks load a Lnux based OS into RAM only; and the hard drive is merely a resource/storage device which is usually fully accessible, Thus it can be fully scanned and pests which may hide within windoze files whilst windowze is booted up, Often pests hide themselves within active windoze files;. making it harder (sometimes near impossible) to remove whilst the wndoze is active/booted up.

It's a long shot but turn off by holding down power button. Unplug power cord. If it's at all possible remove the main battery. If you manage this then while the battery is out hold the Power Off/On button down for at least 20 seconds. Finally put back together and cross fingers and toes.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Kinda sounds like you might have malware or a virus. If Derek's suggestion doesnt work, I would suggest doing a system restore.

Please post the make and model of your laptop so we can help you better.
