Solved IE11 Script Error in Windows 10 - Rant

June 12, 2016 at 02:54:18
Specs: Windows 10, Intel i5 3.2GHz 8.0Bg
To my mind the script error issue is quite random.
I do some 1:1 computer teaching and I have one or two clients who are plagued by it. Constant pressing the esc key seems the easiest way to clear it as you can use your left hand!
I have experienced the problem myself at times but then it goes away. Most people I help have the Google toolbar, including myself
It does seem more prevalent with W 10 users (and IE 11).
My perception is that its a Microsoft error and that they should fix it!

I assume IE Repair doesn't help? I recall it helped someone once on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks, Derek. I've seen the comment about resetting IE which has follow-up comments that suggest the issue re-appears.

Are you suggesting that repair is different from resetting as I cannot find that in the MS forums. It seems you can turn it off then turn it on.

✔ Best Answer
Sorry, my error, I meant IE Reset:

IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button.

It keeps your Favorites. Your addons vanish but they come back very quickly with usage. If you've added any special ones then get them again afterwards.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

THE FIX THAT WORKED FOR ME
select TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/ADVANCED
check both DISABLE SCRIPT DEBUGGING boxes
uncheck DISPLAY A NOTIFICTION ... box
if above boxes are already checked or unchecked as specified,
select RESTORE ADVANCED SETTINGS
select APPLY
you are finished

if above boxes were not already checked or unchecked as specified,
select APPLY
select RESTORE ADVANCED SETTINGS
you are finished

Thanks for the response. To be honest, I've had the problem just once since my earlier posts and that was a couple of days ago. I am assuming Microsoft must have done something to cure it!
