" if I set the printer to the Wi-Fi first"

What do you mean by that? Did you configure the printer to use the WiFi? Did you enter the passcode into the printer for the WiFi connection? Did the printer actually say it was connected to WiFi?

All this needs to be done first before you try to connect your computer to it.

Has the printer been setup as per the manual? Usually a printer is setup via a usb connection first; then the networking is setup.

Once that process is complete it ought to be available.

Do you have manual for your printer?

If not then it can be downloaded from here:

How are you connecting the printer to your network, Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi, have you set up your printer to the Wi-Fi network first?

THX 1138 - Thanks for your response The printer is connected to the network wireless.
I don't understand your question - " if I set the printer to the Wi-Fi first ". I downloaded the
HP printer software and driver from the HP website and followed the prompt to add the printer.

As I told THX 1138, I downloaded HP Printer app and driver for the kind of Printer I have,
HP OfficeJet Pro 6835, and followed the PROMPT to add this printer.

Yes, that will work if the printer is connected to the network via a network cable. Since you are using it wireless to the network then you have to connect the printer first to the network similar to how you connect a cell phone, tablet, or laptop to the network. I assume that the printer has a small LCD screen and there should be a set up menu there or see the manual for connecting it to the Wifi first. If the printer is close enough to your router then I recommend getting a Cat5 cable and just plugging it in, much simpler.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

THX 1138, Fingers & trvlr, - - - It took me a while to follow your various instructions and implemented them. First, I set up up the Printer through the small LCD window - connect the Printer through the Network, remove the Pass Code and re installed it again. The printer said it is connected to the Wi-Fi. Then, I connected the Printer to the Computer from the HP.com recommendation of my kind of printer app and drivers. It should work but it only prints the Screen by pressing Ctrl and P. I also went to the extreme right of the screen where there is a Print in the Menu and when pressed, it also print. It does NOT print, however, the PDF file in my main file or any file in the other set up files.

By the way, I uninstalled the original HP printer apps thro the control panel and reinstalled the apps using the disk that went with the Printer when I bought it.

Also, if I pay my bills electronically through the Bank, the computer will NOT print the payment confirmation produced.

I still get the NOTICE on the print screen " We could not reach this printer. Make sure the printer is on and you are connected to the printer's network."

Overall, Thanks to all of you.

Go to Devices and Printers and make sure that the printer is the default printer and there are no other real printers installed, including duplicates of the same one. Delete the others. I do not see any reason to leave One Note, Fax, and the other non-printers as print devices so I remove them but that is up to you.

Have you followed this quick start/setup routine - as per hp support site?

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manua...

This is a list (hp support area) for all windows-10 compatible hp printers. Yours is there - way down the list. When you click on the "full feature driver" it takes you to the bottom of the list and to assorted guidance re which driver(s) to go for; and how to get and install them. The info you need is very near the bottom of the page.

Have you gone this route in your efforts thus far?
