Solved Hyperlinks do not work in win 10

April 1, 2020 at 07:09:55
Specs: Win10, Intel core i7 2600/ 4GB
Recently I started having problems with links in win 10 on my . It is no longer possible to get into my favourite browser Firefox, I can no longer make hyperlinks in Excel 2013 or 2007 and apparently Outlook is even more affected. I cannot open my Gmail. In one answer on:

https://www.tenforums.com/browsers-...

I found a suggested solution to the Outlook question:

Close Outlook
Open command prompt as admin and enter the following commands:

REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm /ve /d htmlfile /f
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html /ve /d htmlfile /f
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml /ve /d htmlfile /f
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xht /ve /d htmlfile /f
REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xhtml /ve /d htmlfile /f

I am too unfamiliar with tampering in the registry to try this for my problems. Could sombody advise me what I could do please? This or something else.

I have a suspicion that it has to do with updates to win10 that are automatically pushed onto computers.

Thanks Fingers, hi again willem.

Lets have a look at these logs next.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
If we have to run Farbar more than once, refer this SS.
http://i.imgur.com/yUxNw0j.gif
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the Desktop.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt) on the Desktop.
The logs are large, upload them using one of these. No time delays/Captcha-I'm not a Robot/account/registration needed. Give us the links please.

You may have an infection causing your issues. Please run these first:
ADWCleaner by Malwarebytes:
https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/...

Remove all it finds and then run Malwarebytes free version with 'scan for root kits' checked off:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-do...
Remove all it finds as well.

Copy Paste the logs they generate when done in separate replies here for review.
Let us know if it makes any difference.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

A good start in the right direction. I have sent a note to JohnW to pop by when he has the chance to look over your logs and give additional advice.
I probably would rerun both and then AV program and if clear then run Tweaking.com Windows Repair Tools but see what JohnW suggests first as he is the most knowledgeable on resolving these issues.

For Fingers and Johnw. Nice to see you again Johnw. Here is the link to receive FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Thanks for your help.

For some reason I didn't see the link when I used the fourth icon above, so I mention it here not as a link:

Here you are willem, test your hyperlinks when finished.

Copy & Paste only the text in Blue below & save it into Notepad on your Desktop & name it fixlist.txt
NOTE: It is important that Notepad is used. The fix will not work if Word or some other program is used.
NOTE: It is important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Johnw,

It went more or less as you wanted, except for the outcome. Looking on the internet I found many of the same messages, so initially, I thought it must be something that started after the last update that was pushed onto the PC. What I did is:

1. Copied the blue stuff and saved it as Fixlist on the desktop
2. Opened FRST64.exe and SCANNED again,
3. But then I saw the FIXEN button, I assume a new log was made, but I thought as I didn't change anything since yesterday, clicked FIXEN
4. From this Fixlog you must have understood that my current PC is a Win 10 DUTCH version
5. The PC was given to me by my son
6. None of the links (http://fs5.directupload.net/images/...) at the bottom worked, so I just copied the fixlog text below. If that is not enough let me know.
7. After having restarted the PC I ran MS-Office Excel 2013 and made a hyperlink and clicked on it to open the PDF file in Foxit, my default PDF reader
8. BUT I received the same error message that, translated, reads "Because of the policy of your organization we cannot execute this action. Contact your helpdesk".

"Because of the policy of your organization we cannot execute this action. Contact your helpdesk"
This sounds like a corporate or school owned machine possibly sold off to your son. If this is the case and you own it legitimately, then you may have to wipe the drive completely (delete all partitions) and reinstall Windows on it from scratch to get full independent use/ownership of the system as an individual.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Fingers, Johnw,

This machine was put together by a IT firm for the business of my son. I will try to contact this IT firm about it. The system is legal, with legal software.

I have been thinking it might be the easiest to re-install Win 10 and MS-Office with the codes that are on this PC and which I have found using Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder. It would make it also possible to use the English version of software. For the Office software I have been using Libreoffice the last two months and there this hyperlinks works normally.

I rang my son for details, but he too ill to do anything about it. May be he sends me the IT fellow who put the PC and the Win10 Enterprise together. I'm sorry for all this trouble I am creating.

If I reinstall the PC from start can I use the CD-Key of Windows Enterprise for re-installing a simple Window 10 Home and Student ?

Really appreciate yor help

Thanks for the feedback Willem.

We can theorize all we like debating if it will work, but the only way you will know for sure, is by trying.

Download the latest W10 ISO, during the install, Delete all the partitions, keep hitting Delete until it & Format are greyed out & you are left with an Unallocated drive.

Proceed & when asked to put in your key/product number, hit > Do later or something similar.

No other drives should be connected during the install.

If Windows doesn't automatically activate, put the key in.

I've seen the English version of that on this HP laptop a few
times. I believe it is a Windows error message that is shown
when one tries to do something prohibited by a group policy.
There seem to be group policies on the laptop despite the
fact that it is running the Home version, not Professional or
Enterprise. Maybe part of the HP install of Windows 10.
